about

Joining us for our twenty ninth release on Variant Electronic is the diverse and talented “The Mark” aka Marco Cattani. Being no stranger to the music "scene", with his previous work with the bands "Halo Effect" and "Chemical Waves", a project born from a desire to develop a different sound. The Mark indeed shows this as he branches out in new directions with his fully electronic 2015 self release on Bandcamp, “A slight shadow of a Ghost”. His music is raw yet magical so there is no doubt we are happy to have his eleven track album “Buried Alive” as our latest instalment. The EP opens up with the titled track “Something Is Really Wrong In This Place”. The track brings you on a journey of chaos, opening with hissing synths and haunting vocals as it builds up to a phenomenal drop into a hammering kick, with dance-floor demolishing synths, alongside airy yet notable pads, giving a haunting sound to the track. Something is really wrong in this place is really right in its place. This is just the beginning. “Unspoken” will literally leave you speechless with its constant builds, unique sounds and overall originality. With its whispering vocals and classic synths, there is something timeless about this track, full of originality, the slow build to a frantic drop that will blow you away. Continuing on our journey we come to track number three “ Is This A Dream”. The track has a solid mechanical sound with rolling kicks, sizzling claps, busy percussion, and robotic vocal that makes you wonder what year you might be living in. Track number four “Buried Alive (I Live Again Mix)” bring us to life with its electro bass-line. The upbeat jerky bass-line and catchy percussion give it the potential to become a real anthem for the synth addicts. No holds barred music. Closing in on the halfway mark we begin to relax into “Find You”. But we quickly realise the madness is not over yet with the shudder-some vocals “I’m going to find you” followed by cries and screams throughout the track. This journey is far from over. Crammed full of originality and imaginative uses of effects and percussion to build into an almighty thumping electronic symphony. “Shut Up” brings an electronic punk element to this already vastly varied and creative album. With its agitated vocals and crunching snares it sets a scene representative of the chaotic world we live in today. Starting with a ticking clock sound, time is forgotten with the seventh addition to the release, “Ghost Train”. This fast paced track beats you into life, while at the same time leaving you on the edge of you seat, with its ghoulish sounds that curl around you throughout the track. Following suit, while adding another superbly welcomed aspect to this album we present “Im Lost”. Full of romantic synths taking you to another world. This track is one of a kind. Following on from the original, we have the first remix on this album, by Variant regular "Reject". His take on “Im Lost" brings us back to straight up techno with this four on the floor banger. A solid production, straight up techno. Our journey begins to come to an end as “Deceptive” comes crashing in, initially with a sci-fi build up into massive kicks hitting us like comets in space. The tingling synths gives us one last trip as we come towards our final destination on this amazingly original album. Last but not least, we have a remix from label owner Luke Creed, of the second track "Unspoken", not the standard from Variant owner this time, given the source material. This tough as nails four on the floor banger brings another dimension to the album, being the final track on the album, its a satisfying way to finish an amazing album.
